Sports Massage

Let's just throw it out there... Sports massage doesn't need to be painful to be beneficial. At most, it should be comfortably uncomfortable. At best, soothing and effective. You can be a hero on the field or during the race, but there's no need to grit your teeth and brave it during your massage. At lime & myrtle, we will always take the time to warm you up before letting loose with the big guns - elbows & triggers points - because warm muscles respond best to treatment. Cold muscles are resistant to the benefits of massage and are susceptible to damage and injury, setting your training or recovery back unnecessarily.

Active bodies can benefit greatly from massage through:
   - removal of metabolic waste trapped within the muscle tissue
   - lengthening of muscle fibers to aid in movement and flexibility
   - releasing tension held in the muscles as a result of strenuous exercise
   - increased blood flow and lymphatic drainage
    - reduced soreness and stiffness in the muscles

If you're a serious competitor, massage can play an integral role in every phase of your competition cycle.

Starting out
Muscle soreness can be expected when you start any new sport or exercise régime. Massage can help sooth your aching body to overcome that initial soreness phase that stops so many first timers in their tracks. Massage can also assist in the removal of built-up waste to allow your muscles to recover and perform at their best.

Training for an event
Massage is an important maintenance tool to aid fast recovery after each gruelling session to decrease soreness and increase your ability to perform. Trigger point therapy and targeted massage helps to remove the wastes stored by the body after each training session and assists in lengthening the muscle fibers for maximum flexibility and performance. Include regular massage in your training schedule for improved performance and wellbeing.

Event day
As your training partner, lime & myrtle can support you through your pre and post event phase, and even during the event if required. A brief vigorous treatment immediately before you compete serves to wake up the muscles and nerves and have them firing and ready for action. During the event massage can assist to keep warmth in the muscles to relieve cramping and reduce the chance of injury, while post competition, massage is valuable in calming, relaxing and releasing tension in well-used worn out muscles.

Recovery
Post event, massage helps aid faster recovery by lengthening the muscle tissue, relieving soreness, increasing blood flow and assisting with the removal of stored metabolic waste. Oh, and it also feels awesome!
