What should I expect?
New to massage?
If you've never had a massage before, you are in for a treat. All you have to do is decide what type of treatment you would like and we will do the rest. You don't need to be an expert. We have our own protocol to ensure your comfort, privacy and relaxation, and we'll let you know exactly what is required along the way.
Here are a few tips to ensure you get the most out of your time at lime & myrtle:
Shower before you arrive for your treatment
Yes, this is a cleanliness courtesy to your therapist, but more so, showering prior to your treatment opens your pores and allows the delicious oils and their healing and nurturing qualities to penetrate into the deepest layers of your skin, giving you maximum benefit. Showering first also means you don't have to shower later so the oils stay on your skin while you sleep - which is extra nice if you have chosen an aromatherapy treatment.
Make time
Being a few minutes early for your treatment helps, because it gives you the headspace to separate yourself from the world outside and focus on taking time out. The world stays outside the door. Your phone goes off and you being to relax, even before you get onto the table. We may also need to complete some paperwork and an assessment before your treatment, to ensure we target the areas you require.
Sshhh
After we've had a chat, discussed your treatment plan and you are on the table, please don't feel like you have to be polite and make conversation. Massage isn't like a 'normal' social situation. It is supposed to be time for you - time to switch off, let your thoughts melt away and enjoy the comfortable silence. So even if you are having a remedial or sports treatment, there's no pressure to be a dazzling conversationalist. But of course, if you want to chat during a remedial treatment, feel free!
Privacy and comfort first, always
At lime & myrtle draping is king. You will be fully covered with towels during the entire treatment with only the body part being massaged undraped (and, of course, your face). Our clinic is air-conditioned so its never too hot or too cold. Draping ensures your privacy, creates a professional barrier between the client and the therapist. Generally your therapist will leave the room to allow you to undress and hop onto the table and cover yourself with towels - the only exception to this is for clients who are in the later stages of pregnancy, or those who are frail and may need help getting on and off the table. In these cases, secure draping practices ensure you can still undress in complete privacy, even when your therapist is in the room.
What do I take off?
Your therapist will explain what you need to do, but the main rule is that undies always stay on. No undies, no massage. Most massages require ladies to remove their bra, so that the back is fully accessible to the therapist, but your privacy will never be compromised - that's why we need 5 towels for every treatment!
I am still unsure, what if I don't like it?
If at any stage during your assessment or treatment you feel awkward or uncomfortable, you have every right to ask your therapist to stop. Massage can provoke unexpected thoughts, emotions and memories that you may find surprising or uncomfortable so please be sure to tell us if you need some time, or if you want to finish the treatment early - your comfort is our priority.
What is the difference between a relaxation and an aromatherapy treatment?
The difference is the oils and type of massage used. A relaxation treatment uses plain sweet almond, grape seed or coconut oil and slow, flowing strokes to enhance the state of relaxation. An aromatherapy massage introduces essential oil blends to increase the effect of the treatment. Depending on the desired outcome, stimulating oils may be used, or oils with particular benefits to address a certain issue (aching muscles, insomnia, clarity of mind, pre-event muscle stimulation etc) . If calming oils are used, an aromatherapy treatment can be relaxing as well.
